Clube Atlético Mineiro, commonly called Galo (Portuguese for "Rooster"), is a professional Brazilian football club based in Belo Horizonte, founded on 25 March 1908 by twenty-two students. It has won the state championship, the Campeonato Mineiro, a record 50 times, and the national Campeonato Brasileiro three times (in 1937, 1971, and 2021), alongside two Copa do Brasil titles and one Copa Libertadores. The club's current home, the Arena MRV (capacity over 46,000), opened in 2023, the same year the consortium Galo Holding acquired a 75% controlling stake in the club. Atlético holds fierce local rivalries, most notably the Clássico Mineiro against Cruzeiro, and is ranked as the fourth most valuable club brand in Brazil, worth R$3.373 billion. With a record two Copa CONMEBOL titles and a historical legacy built on inclusivity and attacking flair, the club remains a major force in South American football.
