J.T. Realmuto (born March 18, 1991) is a premier American baseball catcher currently playing for the Philadelphia Phillies after starting his MLB career with the Miami Marlins. A standout multi-sport athlete at Carl Albert High School in Oklahoma, he set a national high school record with 119 RBIs in 2010 before being drafted by the Marlins in the third round of the 2010 MLB draft. After debuting in June 2014, Realmuto became the Marlins' starting catcher in 2015 and earned his first All-Star selection and Silver Slugger Award in 2018. Traded to the Phillies in February 2019, he added a second All-Star nod, another Silver Slugger, and his first Gold Glove Award that same year. In January 2021, following a fan-led "Sign J.T." movement, the Phillies signed him to a record-breaking five-year, $115.5 million contract—the largest deal ever given to a catcher in MLB history—cementing his status as a franchise cornerstone.
