Nneka Ogwumike

Nneka Ogwumike (born July 2, 1990) is a celebrated American professional basketball player who was drafted first overall by the Los Angeles Sparks in 2012, later earning the WNBA MVP award and a championship title in 2016. Her name means "Mother is Supreme" in the Igbo language, and she is the older sister of Chiney Ogwumike, the first overall pick in the 2014 draft. Before the pros, she led Cy-Fair High School to a state title and starred at Stanford, where she reached the Final Four four times and became the program's second all-time leading scorer. On the international stage, she claimed gold medals at the U18, U19, and World University Games, and also competed in the 2014 FIBA World Championship. Beyond her athleticism, she was elected President of the WNBA Players Association in 2016 and re-elected in 2019. In 2021, Ogwumike was honored with a place on The W25, recognizing her as one of the top 25 players in the league's first 25 years.
