Robin McLaurin Williams (July 21, 1951 – August 11, 2014) was an American actor and comedian celebrated for his rapid-fire improvisation and the range of characters he brought to both comedy and drama. He first rose to fame as the alien Mork in the sitcom Mork & Mindy (1978–1982) and went on to star in beloved films like Dead Poets Society, Mrs. Doubtfire, Jumanji, and Aladdin, while earning an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in Good Will Hunting (1997). His career spanned four decades, earning him numerous accolades, including an Oscar, two Primetime Emmys, six Golden Globes, and five Grammys. In his final years, Williams suffered from severe depression, anxiety, and paranoia, and after his suicide at age 63, an autopsy revealed he had diffuse Lewy body disease, a condition consistent with dementia with Lewy bodies. His death was met with an outpouring of tributes, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest comedians of all time.
