The Longest Daycare

The Longest Daycare (officially Maggie Simpson in "The Longest Daycare") is a 2012 American 3D animated comedy short based on The Simpsons, which premiered on July 13, 2012, attached to screenings of Ice Age: Continental Drift. The silent short follows Maggie Simpson as she is dropped off at the Ayn Rand School for Tots, where she must protect a newly hatched butterfly from her nemesis, the foul-tempered Baby Gerald, using a clever ruse to ultimately set it free. The project was conceived by executive producer James L. Brooks, directed by long-time series veteran David Silverman, and written by a team including Brooks, Al Jean, David Mirkin, Michael Price, Joel H. Cohen, and creator Matt Groening. It was re-released in select U.S. theaters on February 15, 2013, before screenings of Life of Pi. The short received positive reviews for its storytelling and animation, earning a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 2013.
