Tyler Phillips
Tyler Phillips (born October 27, 1997) is an American professional baseball pitcher who currently plays for the Miami Marlins in Major League Baseball (MLB), having previously pitched for the Philadelphia Phillies. Drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 16th round of the 2015 draft, he rose through the minors, earning the Nolan Ryan Pitcher of the Year award in 2018 and being recognized by Baseball America as having the best control in all of minor league baseball before the 2019 season. His journey to the majors was slowed by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and an elbow injury that required surgery, forcing him to miss the entire 2022 season. After a strong start with the Triple-A Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs, he was promoted and made his MLB debut on July 7, 2024, with the Philadelphia Phillies, earning his first career win in his first start just six days later. On July 27, 2024, he achieved a career highlight by pitching a complete game shutout against the Cleveland Guardians in an 8-0 victory. Following that breakout season, he joined the Miami Marlins, continuing his professional career at the major league level.
