Cricinfo

Cricinfo (formerly ESPNcricinfo) is a premier sports news website dedicated exclusively to cricket, offering live match coverage, news, and the extensive StatsGuru database that tracks players and matches from the 18th century to today. It was originally conceived in 1993 by British researcher Simon King as a pre-World Wide Web computer bot sharing scores via Usenet and email, before moving to the web and becoming the official site for the 1996 Cricket World Cup. After receiving a $37 million investment from Satyam Infoway in 2000 and being acquired by the Wisden Group in 2003, the site was sold to ESPN in 2007 and renamed ESPNcricinfo. In November 2024, it became part of the JioStar group following the merger of Disney India's assets with Reliance Industries' Viacom18, and in June 2026, it announced it would revert to the name Cricinfo. The site has been a major force in cricket media, recording over one billion pageviews in 2001 and launching the annual ESPNcricinfo Awards in 2007.
