Campbell University Athletics

Campbell University's Fighting Camels compete in 21 Division I intercollegiate varsity sports, primarily in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) since 2023-24. The football team competes in the Football Championship Series (FCS).

Conference Affiliations

Campbell has been a full member of the CAA since 2023. However, it also fields teams as associate members in other conferences. For wrestling, Campbell is a member of the Southern Conference. The women's swimming team previously competed in the Northeast Conference and later became a charter member of the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association.

Varsity Teams

Football: The Fighting Camels football program was reinstated in 2008 and is now a member of the CAA. Men's Basketball: Campbell won the Big South Conference tournament in 1992, earning a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Women's Basketball: The Lady Camels have won two conference championships, in 1989 and 2000. Baseball: Campbell has claimed the Big South Conference title five times, most recently in 2019. Men's Wrestling: The Fighting Camels are associate members of the Southern Conference.

Traditions

Campbell's athletic teams were originally known as the "Hornets" but adopted the "Fighting Camels" nickname in 1934. The mascot is a camel named Champ.

Notable Alumni

Notable alumni include baseball players Jim Perry, Cedric Mullins, and Zach Neto; basketball players Chris Clemons and Fred Whitfield; and soccer player Eduardo Maceira.
