Reykjavík: A Historical Drama in the Making
"Reykjavík," a forthcoming historical drama, captures the pivotal 1986 summit between Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev. Written and directed by Michael Russell Gunn, the film stars Jeff Daniels, Jared Harris, and J. K. Simmons as the respective leaders.
Extensive research went into the film's development, including interviews with former Secretary of State George Shultz. The impressive cast also includes Hope Davis as Nancy Reagan and Branka Katić as Raisa Gorbacheva.
Filming commenced in October 2024 in Reykjavík, Iceland. Gunn utilized the country's production rebate program to shoot on location at Höfði, the actual summit site. Additional scenes were filmed at the Blue Lagoon and other picturesque locations.
Photographer Pete Souza, who documented the original summit, provided on-set photography for the movie. The film is expected to be completed by mid-November 2024 and promises to offer a captivating portrayal of a pivotal moment in the Cold War's history.
